The Materia Combination system. Much as in Final Fantasy VII, magic spells come in the form of crystals called Materia, which you equip on your person. You've always got way more Materia than slots to put it in, but this time you can do something with all the extras. For example, combining a Fire and a Thunder will give you Blizzard, and so on -- perfect for changing unwanted elemental spells into the kind you need. Combining an elemental spell with a physical attack will give you a sword magic-type attack that has an elemental quality but uses your AP skill-points bar instead of MP. But there's more. Combining a HP Up materia that boosts your HP by 10% with a Fire materia creates one ...
