The game, along with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, was announced for the PSP as part of a compilation. The game will feature updated 2D graphics, as opposed to the 3D graphics in the DS remake. The collection will also include a new episode that takes place between the first and second games. Masashi Hamauzu will be arranging the music for the game. It will be released in Japan on March 24, 2011.
